The UCSF Health Helen Diller Hospital Central Utility Plant (CUP) is designed to enhance campus resiliency, energy efficiency, and provide a path for building and campus decarbonization. The plant is designed with heating and cooling provided by both heat recovery and cooling only electric chillers configured to take advantage of today’s most efficient chillers and providing multiple modes of operation. The Helen Diller Hospital plant is currently planned to operate in parallel with the existing campus plant to optimize efficiency between both CUPs and provide a minimum of N+1 backup at any given time but the hospital plant can also island itself from the campus should a catastrophic event disrupt the site distribution. Helen Diller Hospital also adds an additional (9)MW of emergency power generation at 12kV supporting a campus medium voltage distribution scheme. We have also completed design on a campus fuel oil storage and distribution system supporting all campus diesel needs sized at 210,000 gallons using ASTs.
Helen Diller Hospital is designed at 875,000 GSF supporting new acute care services including an expanded emergency department, imaging and diagnostics, (33) operating and interventional rooms and (336) inpatient beds.
The project utilizes an integrated project delivery approach with an IFOA poly-party contracting method. Mazzetti is contracted to provide MEP engineering, Lighting Design, and Sustainability services.
