Marian Regional Medical Center (MRMC) has been an integral member of California’s Central coast healthcare community for over 75 years. Rated among the top 10 percent in the nation for cardiac care, Marian Regional Medical Center aims to provide high-quality, affordable health care to all. MRMC is chosen for its clinical excellence and commitment to providing environments that meet each patient’s physical, mental, and spiritual needs.
Responding to the rapidly growing population of the Santa Maria Valley and its demand for quality technologically advanced care, a journey began to build a new, state-of-the-art hospital.
Challenge
The Santa Maria Valley was facing a quickly growing population. This coupled with MRMC’s aging infrastructure in MRMC’s current facility, presented challenges, yielding the need for a new hospital. Over the course of the project, spanning 15 years, project parameters changed, and additional inpatient beds were deemed required, the outdated pharmacy needed replacement, and the existing Emergency Department would need to double its capacity.
Solution
Mazzetti+GBA provided medical equipment and low voltage systems planning and procurement assistance. Our team worked to incorporate elements that enhanced patient safety and comfort, including the planning of an infant security system, the new chapel’s A/V system, and an interactive television system for patient rooms. Due to the long duration of the project, changing technology standards, and seismic requirements, our team had to be informed and up to date on project standards and requirements and adjust when necessary.
The new 239,560 sf addition to Marian Regional Medical Center provides 181 state-of-the-art inpatient beds. Tied in to the existing hospital, the facility replaces the outdated pharmacy, and includes a new emergency department, 21-bed neonatal intensive care unit, expanded critical care unit, data center, and chapel.
Results
The project doubled the size of the existing hospital, providing patients with state-of-the-art technology and equipment that meets the owner’s commitment to clinical excellence, patient safety, and sustainable design.
