I’m Greg Liles, Mazzetti’s new Director of Technology Consulting with over 30 years of experience in the technology and design space. My journey began in 1994 when I first entered the field, and since then, I’ve had the opportunity to work across a variety of sectors including healthcare, data centers, corporate environments, science and technology, hospitality, and government.
Over the years, I’ve contributed to the design, bidding, and build phases of numerous projects, and while most of my experience aligns with traditional design-bid-build methods, I’ve also had the opportunity to be involved in IPD projects.
One of the most interesting and challenging projects I worked on was early in my career when I was involved in technology design for the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). The labs I worked on had varying Biological Security Levels (BSL), with BSL-4 being the most secure. These labs needed to be airtight when pressurized, and I was tasked with ensuring that the network outlets in these spaces would be airtight as well. The project involved intricate design work to seal backboxes and conduits, preventing any contamination. After testing several scenarios, we developed a solution that used outdoor-rated gel-filled cables and epoxy to seal the conduits. This approach allowed the labs to be pressurized without any leaks. I believe the CDC still uses this method over 20 years later, which is a testament to its effectiveness.
What sets me apart is my ability to provide unique insights into the needs and processes of project teams. Having experience as part of the design team, within the Owner’s IT staff, and as an Owner’s Rep/Program Manager, I bring a well-rounded perspective that helps me guide and encourage teams toward successful project outcomes. My leadership style fosters collaboration and ensures the project team can meet its goals effectively.
What excites me most about my work is the opportunity to enable great projects while helping others succeed. I’ve always believed in doing what you’re good at, and for me, that’s using my experience to create successful, impactful outcomes for clients. This passion for problem-solving continues to drive me forward in my career.
When I’m not in the office, I enjoy spending time with my family and working on property maintenance. I’m an avid outdoorsman, so you’ll often find me deer hunting or fishing. I love the peace and challenge of the great outdoors. My personal interests also revolve around caring for kids and animals, as well as exploring how things work.
I’m especially drawn to TV shows about survival, the Alaskan wilderness, veterinary life, and how things are made. Understanding the world around me—whether it’s through practical hands-on experiences or by watching others—always excites me.
