I’m grateful to have spent 40+ years of my life in this exciting, challenging, and super rewarding industry, specifically a large portion of those years in Healthcare design. Playing a role on projects that will have an impact on society for years to come, is pretty special.
I enjoy building “things”, including building businesses. (I owned my own successful MEP engineering consulting firm for nearly 20 years) I enjoy the puzzle of trying help a client present a project case and “sell” to his/her board — help the client explain and demonstrate the benefits of their desired objectives. I enjoy this opportunity to help communicate the technical story in context with the business case, which could even include a branding aspect. I also seek to optimize simplicity of the operations for the design.
I’ve been the Engineer of Record for more than 1,000 projects across the country, orchestrating the owner’s financial, operational, and reputational needs with smart, sustainable design. I’ll never forget my first project, in Detroit, helping design the GM headquarters, “Renaissance Center” — essentially four 74ft cylindrical towers with ductwork made of concrete!
I now have the honor of helping lead Mazzetti’s SoCal office, mentoring younger staff, continuing to build relationships with so many great clients, and design meaningful buildings that remain relevant well into the future.
When I’m not in the office, I enjoy spending time with my wife, Hillary, and family (two sons, one daughter, and one grandson), golfing, and practicing (or competing in) Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ). If you’d like a good story, ask me how I got started in BJJ!
